I don’t really think the title applies to the post, but it was just a phrase my sister used the other day and it made me laugh. (I’ll not emphasize that she said it to me.)
I’ve been out hunting around for more neat tools for user interface design and development, and once again I find myself impressed with the tools that are out there…and the endless possibilities for producing some sweet interfaces.

In matters of Information Architecture and User Interaction design in web development, there is an update to the guuui.com Visio templates that I have been using (quite successfully) for my several projects. And who couldn’t use a great nail gun, as a User Interface designer?

In the matters of implementation of really cool user interface effects, I’m very impressed with MooTools – a compact, modular, Object-Oriented javascript framework. The nicest thing about the MooTools site is that even with javascript turned off, the site is still usable. Excellent design – functionality and flash (without the Flash)! I’ll be playing with this soon, so expect some fun things from the playground.

I’ve actually gotten to the point where most other casual designer/developer/writers just sort of “poop out” of the blogging world, only updating if they’re asked to, or if they feel guilty enough. Right now, I’m posting because a little of both. First things first: A few individuals wanted to see the PHP source for the Hot Hot Date Shopping Cart. I have now posted just the source. Keep in mind I still haven’t quite finished the entire shopping workflow; once that is finished, I’ll bundle source, style, and other information into a tidy package. But not until I finish. Until then, check out script.aculo.us for a great number of fantastic implementations of the
prototype.js
and other related libraries.

Second order of bidness: What the hell has Denise been doing all summer? Okay, only the people that care about me ask this question, including my poor mother whom I should call as soon as I finish this post. Here’s a snapshot of what keeps me away from my blog:

Clients, clients, clients. Mettler Toledo, b.glam baby, Greyhound Adoption of Ohio, and most demanding of all is BMW Financial Services. I do have two upcoming projects for a top secret new company, detail of which I will share when we go live.

Running. And more Running. We’re trying to recover from the many very very very hot days of not running over the past few weeks. This weekend saw 5 miles of hilly and rocky terrain at Highbanks Metro Park.

My new furbaby Ronin. My first dog since I left home 7 years ago (11 if you count the years away at college). My husband’s first dog ever. A retired racing greyhound makes a wonderfully affectionate and somewhat lazy pet — contrary to popular belief, they’re not super energetic all the time. Our boy is a little more energetic and is showing more puppy-like behavior every day as he is only 2 1/2. He is quite the attraction of the neighborhood, as not many people are familiar with the greyhound as a pet. He loves his raccoon, and he loves meeting people. And he loves to nap.

During my exploration of AJAX techniques, I found a version of a drag n drop shopping cart that was used on just a handful of sites. My initial investigation found that there was a drag n drop cart developed using Ruby on Rails — but I wanted to see an implementation in PHP. Luckily, I came across a like-minded individual who loved the Ruby on Rails version but needed a PHP version. Since I am still learning, I took a look at the PHP-version source and customized it….just a little.

Here’s the Hot Hot Date Cart in the gui girl’s design playground. Order your date with the gui girl today!
