You know those days when you know exactly what battles NOT to pick with your toddler? Today The Pink One decided YES IT IS THE DAY TO WEAR THE HAND-ME-DOWN PINK TUTU in public. Really.

Who am I to stop her? I’m just happy she decided to keep her diaper on in public.

The Pink One turned two last week, and so we have had so far have celebrated with one special dinner (plus cupcake) and one special breakfast (plus strawberry preserves). I’ve yet to plan and execute an official 2nd birthday party for her as I was out of town for a conference and have yet to have the spare minutes to work on it.

The Pink One^TM has discovered the joys of the peeled apple, and will now request them for a snack whenever she can. I don’t think her fondness of apple will supplant her love of cheese. She is half Dutch, after all.

Saturday POTD: Easter Dress, 2009

Oma and Dit Dit arrived Thursday evening, and with their arrival came: The Easter Dress. Actually, multiple dresses, but some are more appropriate for this coming summer.

“Hey. Where’s Reese?”

“Reese is asleep.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Over there.” Bobbi motions to a patch of grass near the playhouse.

Sure enough, curled up on the ground was a very asleep Reese. You must understand something: In the 19 months that we’ve gotten to know Reese, this has never happened before. She has never just “fallen asleep” while doing anything. She will stay awake for everything if she could. The only places we have ever known her to fall asleep have been her crib, her pack ‘n play, and the car seat.

But falling asleep while playing outside?

Yeah, that just happened.

Saturday POTD: First Haircut, 17 Months.

Just to put this into perspective, it has taken Reese 17 WHOLE MONTHS to grow just enough hair to warrant a trim. There was a 7 month old baby girl that was there at the same time who had more hair than ME who needed a full style and blow dry. I have never seen so much hair on a child before. Not like that. I’m in awe.

As for Reese, she was a perfectly well-behaved and seemed to enjoy the bustling, child-friendly atmosphere. Best of all, she got to choose a post-haircut Dum-Dum lollipop which she quietly sat in the play area and munched away while I knocked back my first and (so far) only cup of coffee of the day. All in all, no tears, no fears – a good experience.
