Chew On This

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

I thought receiving three four sets of these jangly plastic keys was a bit much for one baby. It turns out it is now one of Reese’s favorite items to place in her mouth, so now I keep a set in the diaper bag, two upstairs in the nursery, a set downstairs in the living room baby play area.

Just in case.

Making Up For My Sick Day Yesterday

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

I was hit with some random 12 hour fever yesterday afternoon… I had the wobbles, felt like I was gonna hurl, fever was crazy high. Good times, much like the house of e-lah had been experiencing. Now I know how truly miserable one can feel when one is sick and there is a baby whose needs must be met.

Fortunately for me, it was a 12 hour bug, not a 24 or 48 hour bug.

Here’s a few shots of the girl in the sunshine that brightens my living room today.

Checking Out The Girl In The Mirror

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Reese loves her reflection, as all babies do.

I found some time today to do “photo shoot” and decided I would try to capture the Girl admiring the cute baby in the mirror.

The Rice Cereal Incident

Friday, January 25th, 2008

I got the go-ahead from our pediatrician to try out some rice cereal on the wee one, so I decided to wait until the 4 1/2 month mark to try it out. I wasn’t expecting much, considering how we all know how well she takes a bottle (she doesn’t), but I thought it would make for some pretty fun video.

I wasn’t wrong about that. However, I was wrong about how much she seemed to enjoy her first introduction to food.

I took 6 videos, I’m uploading two of them here and here.

Cereal tastes so much better when *I* have the spoon.

Adventures In Cloth Diapering

Monday, January 21st, 2008

So, I’m on this kick with this child to try using cloth diapering when I can during the day. It’s really not much more effort than doing regular laundry — if you can get past the ick factor of the neon-orange poo that is excreted from the business end of this baby.

In addition to having the support of all grandparents, I’ve got some support in the community from a woman who owns her own diaper service AND she designs and makes her own brand of cloth diapers. She’s helping me to learn the ropes of the fine art of cloth diapering in this world of convenient disposables. If you’re having a child soon, or currently diapering your own baby, give this some thought and check out her site for her Clean-N-Green diaper service and her own design Clovers™ cloth diapers.

And my, aren’t there some cute cloth diapers (and diaper covers) out there.

I admit it, she’s my muse…

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

The only time I have for creativity lately seems to be with my little point ‘n shoot. I can’t wait for the day that I can save up my beans to get a swanky digital SLR — but for now, this camera takes some very nice shots.

It helps that my subject matter is so much fun.

Gettin’ Our Snuggle On

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Gracious. It’s ridiculously cold outside this weekend. As you can see, we the near-hairless creatures must find any way possible to preserve our body heat.

Baby, it's cold outside

Someone’s Feeling Better, You’ll Never Guess Who

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Fever’s beat, and stuffy node id not ad stuffy ad it once wad. Smiles, coos, and giggles are back, thank goodness. I was starting to have withdrawal symptoms as a result of her diminished pleasant demeanor.

Thermoregulation: Normal

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Fever broke about 4 pm yesterday afternoon. The little monkey is starting to return to her normal habits and level of cheerfulness.

Fever, Baby.

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Reese is running her first fever.  I’ve been checking it periodically…and she clocked in at 102 this morning via the “armpit” thermometer.

Poor girl, she’s so hot…and not in a Paris Hilton sort of way.

Stupid shots.  Stupid headcold.  At least she only woke up once last night…
