The Daddy Edition : 4th Year Anniversary

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

To my husband : Last night with the peanut was probably one of the rougher ones since the very first night home from the hospital. Thank you for your patience and support and unwavering faith in our budding parenting ability. I know it’s not easy to have each night turned upside down with unpredictable colic or non-stop feeding sessions.

Just remind me to get you the earplugs for the moments when Reese really gets frothed up.

I love you. Happy anniversary.

I’m starting to detect a bit of a common element to some of these recent photos.

Just a quick link to the Peekaboo Babies at Riverside — there’s a couple of cute shots of Reese in her “going-home” outfit.

That’s all I have time to do today, gotta get some sleep while I can.

1st Week : Reese, the photo documentary

We’ve started the first online baby album for our distant relatives and friends. I’m still learning how to work our camera (some of my shots are just pathetically blurry) but I’ll be getting better. The parts that break my heart are all the fun faces and gassy little smiles that Reese emits when I don’t have an arm free (and I’m a mile from the camera). I guess I’ll just have to journal those times and burn the images into my brain for me to enjoy for the rest of my life.

For those who can’t look into my brain, here’s the next best thing.

On a culinary note: Thank you Jaime and Ben for the rockin’ Lasagna (Reese liked it too, guess the tomato sauce won’t be a problem) and the awesome apple pie. I likes me some apple pie.

On a ‘figurative’ note: I can zip and button *all my pants now, no maternity clothes needed!

Sleep Deprivation Level:  Highly irregular sleep cycle for me, daddy fares a little better as he doesn’t have to participate in mealtimes.  However, I do find time to post stuff from time to time.  We haven’t yet reached critical mass on the sleep deprivation.

(* Comment excludes the “skinny” jeans, will need a little more work to get back into those drawers.)

I’m starving now, so I will go forage for a snack.

Antics of a fur child

Big family changes in the Philipsen household has not gone unnoticed by the resident canine. To combat the possible onslaught of greyhound depression we gave Ronin the last little scrapings of his favorite treat : peanut butter. Well, we gave him the container, and hilarity ensued.

The past 4 days

Here’s a nice collection of pictures documenting the family and the arrival of Reese. Thanks, Ditta, for being sharp with the camera (and getting a lot of nice shots of Ronin too)!

All for now, gotta go feed the pixie before my nap.

Welcome, little Reese Michelle. It’s been a long 38.5 weeks, but you are totally worth it.

  • September 13, 2007 8:04 pm
  • 6lbs (technically, 5 lbs, 15.6 oz, but we’ll round up)
  • 18 inches
  • Daddy’s chin and mouth, and possibly Mommy’s eyes.
baby girl is here.

uh…..WHAT?

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Just a heads up.  OB Doc is scheduling me for induction tomorrow morning at 6 am.  Looks like I better:

  • get the thank you notes finished
  • get the car seat installed and checked out NOW
  • PACK FOR THE HOSPITAL
  • update the baby countdown

Anyone who’s interested in details know how to get a-hold o me.  I’ll probably be pretty out of it for the next few days.

For all the mommies and daddies out there, any last minute advice?

boy or girl?

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Care to wager a guess? Here are the current (unscientific) opinions:

  • Cashier at Kroger : Boy
  • Pharmacist at Target : Girl
  • Judy at Dublin Convention and Visitors Bureau : Boy
  • Jeni W. : Boy
  • Nice lady at Blankets and Booties in Dublin : Boy
  • The “Needle and Thread” trick: Girl
  • OB Doc : Uncommitted
  • Paul from BMW Financial Services : Boy, but maybe a Girl? (way to commit, Paul!)
  • Tammy : Boy
  • Tom : Probably one or the other

My take:

  • The “carry” looks to be a Boy (all round and out front)
  • I crave fruits, so it must be a Girl

What’s your guess?

new camera!

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Earlier this spring our trusty Canon Powershot began to die. It finally gave up the ghost sometime this summer after my travelin’ friend Kibby stopped by. Now, of course I would love to have a super fancy digital SLR camera, but as I have “opted out” of the working world for a few months, dropping 700 beans on a camera like that just isn’t the right thing to do.

Today our new camera came in — based on a glowing review from a friend of ours as well as the high-opinion of our local Cord Camera guy — we decided on the Fujifilm Finepix s700. Looks like a compact digital SLR, but at the price of a point-n-shoot.

I’ve taken 9 pictures so far, and they all look really excellent. The monkeys in the nursery agree:
